Your voice has more power than you think. As an engineer who supports SWE's mission, you have a unique opportunity to influence policy by offering technical insight, advocating for diversity and inclusion, and uplifting underrepresented communities in engineering – all through legislative advocacy! Join us to build your advocacy skills: get up to speed on legislation fundamentals, learn how to identify and connect with your elected representatives, and take immediate action in a hands-on postcard-writing workshop focused on current policy issues that directly impact students and early-career engineers. We will provide insight on the ongoing policy movements in support of DEI and actions we can take to forge a productive path forward.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize the fundamentals of the legislative process and connect with elected representatives.
Identify and analyze existing legislation relevant to their interests and/or SWE’s overall mission.
Engage in constituent lobbying directly and plan how to sustain this advocacy into the future.
